The grain train took off like a BOH from Martin Marietta, and it took a quick interstate trip of about twenty miles to catch up to it.

CSX Railroad, a division of CSX Transportation, is the third largest railroad company in the United States, operating over 23,000 miles of track in the eastern and midwestern United States.

Although CSX became a corporation in 1980, it did not formally merge it's railroad operations until 1987. CSX railroad as we know it was formed in 1987 by the merger of the Chessie System Railroad, and Seaboard System Railroad. Preceeding that merger was the Louisville and Nashville (1982), Seaboard Coast Line (1967), and Atlantic Coast Line (1967) to create Seaboard Coast Line. Chessie System was a conglomeration of the Chesapeake and Ohio, Baltimore and Ohio, and Western Maryland railroads in 1967. The listed railroads are major players; numerous other short line and regional railroads contributed to the formation of CSX.
