AC4400

CSX CW44AC

Visual Identification: This unit has a large AC inverter cabinet on the left side of the locomotive, behind the conductor's seat. Earlier production runs had three dynamic brake grids located above the inverter cabinet; later production models had two. Unlike it's bigger brother, the AC6000, the radiators do not overhang the end of the locomotive hood.

Another possible identifier for this unit is the cab roof, which slopes down at a sharp angle, then tapers to a gentler slope near the edge of the cab.

Trivials:- This locomotive was a very popular (and reliable) model. It is known as a heavy-grind hauler and is used in heavy freight and unit train services.

- CSX took delivery of several of these locomotives with High Tractive Effort software, designed to increase wheel adhesion. These units are designated "CW44AH".

- The BNSF version of this locomotive was featured as one of the available models in Microsoft's Train Simulator computer game.
